APPEAL TO EMOTION

Appealing to emotion is a great way to add support to a claim or an argument. Appeal to emotion is basically something that brings up a certain emotion. Because emotions has a large play in reasoning. For example, a lot of advertisement ads appeal to the emotion of happiness and excitement. The ads usually uses upbeat music to draw you in and show that the product can bring you happiness. So the appeal to happiness can persuade someone to buy something. Happiness is just one of the types of appeal to emotions, others including appeal to fear or appeal to pity.
Appeal to pity, is the type that caught my attention the most. A lot of organization usually appeal to pity, as way to convince people to join a cause. PETA, uses a lot of ads and strong words in their website that would strike apply to appeal to pity. Pity can cause people to feel empathy and make it easier to persuade them a certain way.

  1. Great post , you talked about all types of appeal to emotion. It is true that a lot of advertisement uses an appeal of emotion. I usually notice ads that appeal to fear , because they are always the craziest ads! But like you said, appealing to the emotion of happiness or excitement will lead a person to become a customer of that certain product. I believe that everyone becomes a victim of ads appealing to happiness. Another good point in your post is the appeal to pity and how you related it to the PETA organization. They show pictures of animals and how they are treated to prove their point and show the issue they're trying fix. Appeals of emotion are key factors in arguments and in communication....

  2. Good post. I feel like you covered all the basics of how a person or cooperation can appeal to emotions. When speaking about appealing to emotions I automatically think of the advertising industry and how people that create commercials and advertisements make them according to our emotions. The better they get their point across and have it trigger something for us emotionally, the better job their doing. I know everyone knows that late night commercial that shows starving kids. The point of that one is to get us to donate money to them, and their appealing to us through pity.
